Grooves do not rescue a wide window
Wedges in this town get blamed for “no spin” when the real story is spin loft so wide the ball cannot bite, or so narrow it never sat up. Humidity from the Missouri makes the lie uglier. We write the window before anyone mentions mill pattern.
June versus January
The same 56° is two clubs in two airs
Dry indoor air in January will make a mediocre window look like a tour check. June river soup will take that same window and refuse to stop the ball. If you only play domes, say so. If you play greens that hold dew at 7 a.m. and bake at 2 p.m., say that too. We bias. We do not split the difference into a wedge that loses both arguments.
Bounce and grind are downstream. A scooping median needs a different conversation than a descending median. We will not hand you more bounce as a personality transplant. If the window is honest and the turf still grabs, then grind gets a vote.
A wedge ladder — 50, 54, 58 or whatever you actually carry — is a Prairie Pair plus a short add, or a Full Casement if the irons are in the fight. We do not “gap by feel” with three balls.
Bring the wedges you hate, not the ones you would post. The sash is not a vanity stall.
